SINCE APRIL 2005, SOAPKIDZ HAS EMPOWERED 13451 VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND 4632 VOLUNTEERS BY CONNECTING THEM TO NATURE WHERE THEY EXPERIENCED LOVE AND PERSONAL GROWTH.

SOAPkidz creates a better Africa by positively impacting the lives of vulnerable children and the environments they live in.
SOAPkidz is a non-profit organisation and our aim is to create environmental awareness, promote nature conservation, teach life skills, while doing fun activities amongst the underprivileged, abused and neglected children.
A person’s outlook on life is generally based on their upbringing and what they are taught at home. A lot of children are not privileged to come from a happy and fulfilled childhood and therefore their outlook is somewhat distorted, from where they become adults who have a warped sense of life.
We believe that all adults can make a small contribution to a child’s life. We believe that by just showing them that you care enough about them, to teach them something, you are already showing them that they are worth something, and that alone is a step in the right direction.

SOAPkidz visit Ecoglen
the 8th of September 2007, Ecoglen along with the other Friends of the Moreleta groups played host to SOAPKidz, a non-profit organisation whose aim is “to create environmental awareness, promote nature conservation, teach life skills, while doing fun activities amongst the underprivileged, abused and neglected children.” 150 SOAPKidz hiked 10 kilometres from the Pick n’ Pay Faerie Glen to the Pioneer Museum in Silverton. Picking up litter, removing alien, invasive plant species, planting new trees as well as completing various tasks for prizes but most of all having fun while learning about the environment and conservation. The day was a great success with 279 bags of litter being removed from the spruit along the 10 kilometres of the hike, roughly 2 bags per child.

The joint Development Day with the SOAPkidz was a really great success. They had 13 children come to visit them. They all went for a hike, a sail and all had a go in a canoe.
They joined them for lunch.
They also enjoyed a game drive through the Reitvlie Nature Reserve.

Kids learn skills while cleaning up the environment
Children from various children’s homes in Pretoria were taken to Roodeplaat dam for a weekend by the SOAPkidz organization to clean up the environment and to have fun for a few days.
The chlidren spent time cleaning the water hyacinths out of of the Roodeplaat dam. The SOAPkidz (Sunrise On Africa’s Peaks Kidz) is a non-profit organization reaching out to disadvantaged and abused kids, in order to show them the value of caring for nature, themselves and others.
“It’s amazing to see how kids, who have been thrown some of the worst punches in life, learn how to express themselves, build self confidence and change their attitudes towards people around them. Personal talents like creativity, determination, compassion and leadership comes naturally to the forefront in a safe and fun environment” says Karen Hauptfleisch, founder of SOAPkidz
Throughout the year SOAPkidz organise many other activities, including adventure races and day hikes. Sponsors and volunteers are always welcome to join this team.

SOAPkidz in conjunction with to care Foundation entertained 3000 toddlers from 83 different pre-primary school from the Makapanstad and Hammanskraal.
Four teachers trainined workshops last year. The teachers were taught how to make vegetable gardens. Soapkidz distributed booklets on how to get creative re-using litter and other environmental issues were addressed. The African child day ended on a high note with 2000 toddlers performing the SOAPkidz litter song, using the music instruments they created by re-using litter. Several articles were made re-using litter and everyone left with a big smile.

Clean Up the World Weekend 2022 Media Releases and Final Update
On the 27th August 2022, the Clean Up the World team will be congratulating and thanking all of their Members who are conducting activities over the Clean Up the World weekend and who have done so throughout the year. They have recorded over 550 Members working with 20,000 groups in 110 countries.
The success of the campaign is a reflection of your local actions and commitment to this global initiative ably supported by our partners who provide much needed funding as well as also encouraging their employees and business associates to join the campaign.
The 16th year of Clean Up the World, Ian Kiernan AO the Chairman and Founder will be congratulating their members and volunteers.
In addition the Executive Director Mr Achim Steiner’s will also be part of the event.

SOAPkidz, a non-profit organisation that provides environmental awareness programmes for vulnerable children, and seven volunteers from the Exploration Society of Southern Africa (ESSA), will be combined with 10 children from the Paul Kruger Children’s Home in a drive to clean the banks of a five-kilometre section of the Highveld Crocodile River in Broederstroom, near Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday August 27.
Rubbish will be collected from the banks of the river included plastic bags (cynically known as South Africa’s national flower), car tyres and a section of a shopping trolley.
The aim of the day is not only to try and make even a small difference in the amount of garbage but to provide these young adults, aged between 15 and 18, with an outdoor experience. It will also exposed them to river rafting and enabled them to come to grips with safe paddling techniques and, ultimately, to have fun while doing something useful.
ESSA and a local commercial river operator provided 10 rafts for the group and, even though the majority of the young men and women have no previous river rafting experience, they proved to be competent paddlers.
Originally the “Crocodile River Clean-up Day” will be a major event targeting Gauteng’s recreational and commercial paddling community. At least 60 volunteers are expected.
Enough awareness hopefully will set a trend and attract more volunteers.
Garbage on the river is a perennial problem that originates about 60 kilometres upstream where the river flows through Gauteng’s vast urban sprawl. The river banks could remain clean during the winter months but every time the Crocodile floods during the summer rainy season tons more garbage will inevitably accumulate, particularly on low overhanging branches acting as strainers. As a river guide note: “All we need now is for the people upstream to be educated in waste disposal and the government to deliver the necessary services to them. Then the river will stay cleaner for longer.”
In the meantime, SOAPkidz and ESSA sent out a strong can-do message with a moral obligation for more people to get involved to keep our beautiful river clean and to continue to attract thousands of people each year from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Fun In The Sun With The Toddlers at Pioneer Museum
On 27 August 2022, 50 adorable looking toddlers between the age of 3 and 6 years from Danville crech will be assisted by a volunteer called Mariet and her team from Pioneer Museum. This is going to be the first experience for the SOAPkidz with the little ones out. Mariet and her team from Pioneer Museum are the experts in dealing with the kids of any age group. The Pioneer Museum team will be entertaining the kids with games, toys, skin and leather. Special thanks will be given to the Grumdling Bus company for the safe travels and the discount received.

As a non-profit organisation, we function solely on sponsors, donations and volunteering. Our projects are completely dependent on available funds.
Donors are usually concerned that donations get absorbed by overheads. SOAPkidz does not have any overheads. We have no permanent staff that get paid as all volunteers and members work for free. Members and volunteers use their own vehicles and do not get refunded for the direct and indirect cost of using their vehicles. SOAPkidz does not have offices as the Director Karen Hauptfleisch runs the charity from her home. All funds donated go directly to touch the lives of the vulnerable children.
Our website is a testament to the fact that we continuously organise events for the children. As a result you can understand that money is constantly flowing out for these events. The more donations we get the more events we can organize and the more children's lives we can touch.
